Ludlow School Committee Defers Vote on Athletic Complex Fee Overhaul
School Committee · Meeting of May 26, 2026
Ludlow School Committee punts athletic complex fee decision to June amid youth-group cost concerns. The committee heard from Superintendent Dr. Tiano and Athletic Director Tim Barillo that opening restrooms at the complex on weekends triggers a four-hour minimum custodial call-in at time-and-a-half pay, pushing a single two-and-a-half-hour youth baseball game from $75 in field rental to nearly $250 total.
The Ludlow Pioneers soccer club pays roughly $29,000 per season for daily use of the turf field and track, while the youth baseball association and Boys and Girls Club have not been charged this spring pending a policy decision. "We just did not want to make that decision in a vacuum," Dr. Tiano told the committee.
The committee approved its 2026-2027 meeting calendar on a unanimous voice vote and received a superintendent evaluation presentation from Dr. Tiano, who submitted 125 pieces of supporting evidence; committee members must return written narratives by June 5 for synthesis ahead of the June 9 meeting.
