School Committee · Meeting of July 21, 2026
Ludlow School Committee tables cell phone ban vote, citing unsettled state law, and approves six updated student policies. At its July 21 meeting, the committee voted unanimously to adopt MASC model policies governing physical restraint of students, medication administration, and self-carry medications, and separately approved a reorganized discrimination and sexual harassment policy framework splitting general discrimination procedures from sexual harassment grievance processes. A proposed revision to the student cell phone and electronic device policy, JICL, was tabled after Superintendent Sharon Cornoyer noted that both the Massachusetts House and Senate have passed bell-to-bell ban legislation but the two bills remain in reconciliation, leaving final requirements unsettled.
"We need to kind of decide, do we think it makes sense to set policy when the final form of state law is still under discussion," Cornoyer said. A high school student who spoke during the meeting described enforcement of the current policy as "not standardized," varying teacher to teacher. The committee also introduced Bill Worley, an educator with nearly 30 years of experience and a master's from Harvard University, as interim principal of Baird Middle School for the coming school year.
