LUDLOW — The Ludlow School Committee voted to raise snack prices at the middle and high schools by 25 cents. The food services director said vendor costs tied to gas prices forced the change, calling rising costs "crazy," and noted prices on larger snacks had not increased in more than five years. The self-supporting program is reimbursed federally under the Community Eligibility Provision, with about 44 percent of students now qualifying for free or reduced lunch.
Separately, Dr. Tara Brandt told the committee only 26 percent of eighth graders are meeting or exceeding state math expectations, calling it an area needing "special attention." The board also heard an informational briefing from the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission on Green Communities designation, which could bring Ludlow a $125,000 grant, but took no vote. Members also moved the grades 6-12 conference day from November 4 to November 19 and approved a Class of 2030 student activity account.
