Ludlow Officials Cut Projected FY27 Budget Deficit to $471,000

Ludlow trims a $2.6 million FY27 deficit to as little as $471,000 after finding a Munis data error. Finance Committee Chairman Tony Sanchez and Board of Selectmen Chairman Silva joined the School Committee and Superintendent Dr. Tiano for a joint budget summit, where the town's budget presenter, Mark, said a mistaken 33 percent health insurance entry had inflated the gap by $1.2 million, and a lower 8.3 percent statewide insurance trend increase saved another $794,783.
"Somehow in the level one budget in Munis, we had entered a 33 percent increase in the school health insurance," Mark said. The school district's own level-services deficit stands at $1,086,000 on a $42,486,286 operating budget. The committee also kept the Commonwealth Virtual School cap at 1.5 percent and renewed the $1,000 Alfred LaRiviere Scholarship.
