LUDLOW — The Ludlow Board of Health postponed a decision on cutting the town's $500 annual body art establishment fee. Board members Antonio Tavares and Lauren Yelinek met without Chair Kelly Lamas, who was absent, and reviewed a staff cost analysis putting the actual renewal cost between $355 and $450. Tavares warned, "if we keep on going down, is everybody else going to come in and say ... can we go down on the other businesses, too?" Yelinek argued for "creating an equitable formula" applied across all department permits before any cut is made.
The review, requested by the Fat Cat body art establishment, returns to the board's November 4 meeting. Ludlow's four body art establishments and ten practitioners currently generate $3,000 a year in combined permit fees.
