Ludlow Safety Committee commits to a site visit at a 250-year-old Center Street church after its pastor described repeated vehicle intrusions onto the property. Dr. Ivan Cutts, new pastor at 51 Center Street, told the committee Thursday that cars have jumped the curb at least three times since the congregation arrived, knocking down a handicap ramp, doing spinouts in the driveway, and crossing the lawn, with the congregation's oldest parishioner at 93.
The committee voted to continue the item and will coordinate a joint visit with DPW and a police sergeant to measure barrier placement options, with a guardrail similar to one already near the property under consideration. Separately, a police representative presented speed-sign data showing northbound Center Street traffic averaging 46 mph in a 40-mph zone across roughly 40,000 vehicle passages, and said the department may mount a permanent speed sign on a telephone pole in the area. A parking complaint from Rose Zimba of 138 Ray Street, citing blocked emergency-vehicle access during large gatherings at 115 Ray Street, was tabled pending a police patrol review.
