Ludlow Safety Committee elects new leadership and tables two pedestrian crosswalk requests at its January 8 meeting. Sergeant Rod Tierney was unanimously elected chair and Captain Zach Ellison was elected vice chair, reorganizing the committee at the start of the new year. The committee tabled a resident request for a crosswalk at West and Holyoke Streets, with Tierney saying the intersection "poses a bigger hazard to pedestrians" because no connecting sidewalks exist on any approach; a second request at Napoleon and Fuller Streets was also tabled pending state and school department consultations.
A guardrail request at 506 Fuller Street was converted to a recommendation for Chevron curve-warning signage, to be placed at DPW's discretion. A resident reporting speeds exceeding 60 miles per hour near Villa Rosa prompted the committee to commit to deploying temporary speed-monitoring equipment to collect traffic data before pursuing enforcement grants or permanent signage.
