Ludlow Capital Improvement Planning Committee reviews $800,000 Whitney Park playground overhaul and $500,000 high school facade repair as top fiscal 2027 priorities. The committee, meeting January 12 with four of five members present, worked through departmental requests covering DPW vehicles, police patrol replacements, fire department debt payments, and school infrastructure, while town staff member Mark presented a free cash estimate of roughly $6.5 million, anchored by $3 million in unspent fiscal 2026 funds already in the town's account and new growth that came in $700,000 above estimate. Members voted unanimously to approve December minutes and directed staff to verify whether a Ludlow Public Schools maintenance pickup had already been replaced before including a new vehicle request, and to contact school officials about moving one or two HVAC units from the fiscal 2028 schedule into 2027 while the school's request list is light.
The committee is seeding the town's first-ever capital stabilization fund at $500,000 and a new DIF revolving fund at $500,000, with staff describing the long-term goal as eventually funding routine capital projects entirely from the stabilization account rather than free cash.
